As you think ahead to your portrait session it is important to decide your preference. Do you prefer a formal portrait or do you want a more casual style of portrait? The answer to these questions will help as you plan the session with Nathan.

A question often asked is; what about hair? Please be sure to wear your hair the way you normally would, this is not the time to try out a new hair style! For men, we like to see a new haircut no closer than five days before the session.

Make up should be as you normally wear it. Occasionally it is useful to wear your makeup a little "heavier" than normal. Usually makeup should be as you would wear it if you were going out for a nice evening.

One of the questions most frequently asked is, "what should we wear"? Generally, we like to see families dressed in clothing that they enjoy wearing. That said, it's best to wear garments that blend well together in terms of color and pattern.


Dark is usually better than bright, and a subdued pattern is usually preferred to a "loud" or very graphic or floral pattern.

One of the best, and easiest, clothing patterns to work with is very simple; blue jeans and T-shirts, either black or white. Or blue jeans and denim shirts, either blue or uniform in one color.

Just try to keep the style of the garments consistent with the style of portrait you want, as well as with each other. Also be sure that the garments work within a good color scheme.

One of the most important things to consider when thinking about a location for your family portrait is your family's style. What are your family's interests? Are you an outdoors family? Do you want a "formal" portrait or a more casual look? Are you more interested in color or black and white? All of these questions have a bearing on the location used in creating your portraits.

We have several outdoor locations that lend themselves to beautiful portraiture. But you aren't limited to outdoors only. We are equipped to travel to any location and,essentially, create a photographic studio there. All of our backgrounds and equipment are portable and are designed to be moved and work on location.
